Because a smooth trip starts with the right kit.
Whether you’re a seasoned tourer or just starting out, having the right tools on board can mean the difference between a minor hiccup and a full-blown holiday disaster. British roads, unpredictable weather, and off-grid camping mean it’s wise to be prepared for just about anything.
Here’s a practical list of essential tools every caravan owner should carry in the UK:
🔧 1.Tyre Pressure Gauge & Portable Air Compressor
Caravan tyres don’t always get the love they deserve — until something goes wrong. A reliable tyre pressure gauge helps you avoid under-inflation, poor fuel economy, and tyre blowouts. A compact 12V air compressor is perfect for topping up before a long tow or after parking up on site.
🧰 2.Basic Hand Tool Kit
At minimum, your toolkit should include:
Screwdrivers (flathead and Phillips)
Spanners or an adjustable wrench
Pliers and wire cutters
Hammer
Tape measure

🔩 3.Spare Fuses and Bulbs
Electrical niggles are common, especially with older caravans or those frequently on the move. Carrying a small selection of blade fuses and spare bulbs for your caravan and towing vehicle can save you a trip to the nearest motor factors.
🛠️ 4.Torque Wrench
Wheel nuts must be tightened to the manufacturer’s specified torque. A good torque wrench is a safety essential — especially after fitting a spare or returning from a service.
🛞 5. Caravan Jack & Wheel Brace
Standard car jacks may not cut it for caravans. A caravan-specific jack, paired with a heavy-duty wheel brace, is a must-have for dealing with punctures or swapping out a wheel mid-journey.
🔧 6. Water Hose with Tap Connectors
A decent food-grade hose for filling up your fresh water tank is vital. UK campsites vary in tap fittings, so carry a selection of universal tap connectors to make your life easier.
🪛 7. Multimeter
Ideal for diagnosing battery, charging or lighting issues. With a little know-how, a multimeter helps take the guesswork out of 12V and 240V system problems.
🔋 8. Jump Leads or Power Pack
If your leisure battery or towing vehicle lets you down, jump leads (or a portable jump starter) can be a real lifesaver. Modern lithium power packs are compact and pack a punch.
🔐 9. WD-40 or Silicone Spray
Great for lubricating door hinges, window catches, and preventing awning rails from sticking. A small can goes a long way.
⚡ 10. 240V Hook-Up Lead & Tester
Most campsites in the UK offer electric hook-up, so a 25m mains lead is a must. A plug tester is handy to check polarity and safety before connecting.
🧽 Bonus: Duct/Heavy Duty Tape & Cable Ties
Because when all else fails… duct tape and zip ties are often the MVPs of the caravan world.
